My topic for my proposal paper...
My ideas for my paper right are as follows. I kind of stole this one from this Jordan, but the effects of the pressure to be "perfect" in our society's standards are making plastic surgery more prevalent and common. And then I can explore the positives and negatives of plastic surgery, and I feel pretty pationate about it. Another option would be exploring the issue about the idea that girls have to be a size 0 or 2. Really people are bigger than this. And it bothers me that people think they have to be that size because models and manicans are so tiny. I'm not a size 2 and I'm ok with it, but I know so many other teenage girls that are always wanting to lose wait and always want to be smaller.

I like your topic choices quite well Kendal. Although I am not a girl, I feel what you are saying. Girls should not be pressured by the media to be a certain size or look a certain way. Plastic Surgery can be a good service when it is used properly. I don’t think plastic surgery was invented so that women could get face-lifts or breast implants. The proper use of plastic surgery is for those who have been in an accident or that have been born with a deformity and are in need of reconstruction. I support you in your decisions to write about these topics and I wish you the best.
I think this is a great idea as well Kendal. I think it would be very interesting to explore why mannequins are the size and color that they are in store like Forever 21 and Abercrombie. It is an obviously decision to have them look the way they do to encourage people to think, "Hey if I have that outfit, then I will look good". If you go into more racially predominate stores, you see different colored mannequins or if you go into plus size stores, you see mannequins that are shaped like the people that buy them. So why can't regular stores make their mannequins larger?
Everything else looks great and I would love to read your paper when you're finished.
Kendal-
This is a really great topic. The steryotype that exists is destroying the female body. It is not practical for every woman to be a size 2, and we should not have to feel the pressure to be that way. I know plenty of girls who do not need to lose weight but feel like they have to be smaller than they are because all female icons are that way. Plastic surgery is also getting out of control. There is a beauty in the natural self and people fail to realize that. I think you could write a great paper on these topics and I would defintely like to read it!
I really like your topic choices. Although, just like nick, I am not a girl I completely agree with you. Girls should not be pressured by the media to be really skinny and have to get plastic surgery. I've seen alot of girls on tv who I think are already too skinny doing all they can to lose even more weight. It's great you feel so strongly about your topic.
Goodluck!
I like your idea Kendal, it sounds very unique, and like something that you would be a good advocate of. AS to laurne's comment about the mannequins, they are just plain weird, and maybe the size and color does make a difference. Hollister manequins all have the beach hair, and Express mannequins don't look like that. I think it's just an easy way to attract a person into the store. And yes, girls are pressured to look like TWIGGY. If they weren't, then there wouldn't be Bulimic, or annorexic people in the world today.
dear kendala,
I like how you stole my topic, cited me, and people are still telling you that you had a good topic. Oh how it makes me laugh. I obviously think that this is a good topic because its mine. But besides that, I think its a good topic because I am a girl. Although I haven't had plastic surgery or mutated my body in any way, it's still relevant in my life. I also think it, for my paper it would be a good idea to interview girls our age. What do you think about that?
